What Is Ultra High Definition TV?

High definition TV has become the standard for most televisions being produced over the last few years.  32 inch flat screen tv and this was the most advanced technology on the market.  However the next level of development is already underway and would be another quantum leap forward in picture quality.  Ultra high definition is the next advancement in terms of picture sharpness, and has the goal of blurring the lines between the television picture and reality, so for the viewer they feel they are almost a part of the program itself.

Ultra high definition television or UHDTV is different to standard high def television in that it provides many more times the information to the viewer, which increases the realism of the images on the screen.  The problem for the development of UHDTV is that it needs to be developed from the ground up as new camera’s are required, along with other equipment that would record and process the ultra high definition images.  UHDTV is also extremely data heavy, so it is a complex process working out how to transmit the data, whether it is through a satellite broadcast, or taking advantage of the newer high capacity cables that are being laid.

The sharpness of the picture is determined by the number of pixels on the screen.  The more pixels both horizontally and vertically, the sharper the picture appears to the viewer.  Standard HDTV is 1280 x 720 or higher.  Ultra high def is 7680×4320, so there are many more times the number of pixels on the screen.  To make the most of the extra picture resolution, it is envisioned that consumer screen sizes will be somewhere around 100 to 200 inches in size.

There is however a lot of development required before this technology becomes available to the consumer.  Broadcast tests are likely to start in 2015, but it might well be 2025 before the technology is live.  In the short term however on the following internet price comparison site you can see a range of great HD TVs, that are either LED’s, plasmas and LCD’s to suit your needs.
