High-Definition Television Calibration and its importance and significant improvement?
Last year (almost exactly a year ago) I purchased a Sony Bravia 1080p 120hz (Series KDL-52W4100)
On this television there are multiple preset options for viewing purposes such as “vivid” “standard” “cinema” “custom”
I have realized that though “vivid” looks optical in the stores, it really hurts my eyes at home, and over does the picture, Standard sort of “dumbs” the picture down, but loses detail in a way, “cinema” makes the picture look kind of “tea-stain” and “custom” is just there.
Is there any OPTIMAL setting to the television that could help me achieve a “True to Life” viewing option, while having that “wow” factor?
Now onto calibration;
By shopping around online i have realized that Best Buy and the Geek Squad offer TV calibration and kind of claim that it will change the settings to make your tv suit its surroundings. Is this true? will i really see a 200 dollar difference?! What is calibration all about? and is it or will it be worth it?
Calibration by Best Buy will take into consideration your surrounding lighting to get you the best settings and the best picture possible.
Is it worth it? Well, it is worth getting it set right, but personally, I wouldn’t pay that kind of money to get it done. You can go through your manual and make your own custom settings to suit what you like. It will just take a bit of time and maybe some research and you can do it yourself. There are also calibration discs that you can buy to help you with your settings as well. Prices for those are from $50-$200.
The optimal settings depends on your lighting and how the room is set up. If you have sun shining in the room, or if the walls are a dark color, that impacts what the best setting is, so there won’t be a one optimal setting that works for everybody. You can experiment on your own and get nearly the same results as paying someone else to do it.
