Is the HD quality of Blu-Ray HD better than regular TV?
Or is it the same high quality? I recently purchased a Sony Blu-ray players for my Panasonic HD TV so I'm wondering how good the quality, when compared with normal TV in HD. How much sharper is movies and will have the letterbox format? Thanks Thanks RT, that info was very helpful! And on the mailbox, I actually am aware of the "widescreen vs. fullscreen" debate haha. I am completely hate movies in full screen. I once watched Lost In Translation in fullscreen and it was depressing to see great shots of Tokyo took off.
The video from the Blu-Ray should look better than anything else, when you start playing a Blu-Ray are film. The question here is not necessarily the number of scan lines (1080/720/480). The real problem is bit-rate (also known as video-compression). Here is the gist: a digital image of the data taken. The more data, the more details. Less data means less detail. The 480 lines of resolution to increase the 720-1080 is in fact increase the detail and more data need to. Here's the catch, if the data is pruned suffers from the resolution, because the data is removed (lost). For this reason, Over The Air (OTA) TV looks better than the exact same channel on cable. Cable compresses the Video to make room for more channels. A Blu-Ray movie on a Blu-ray players will be uncompressed video. It looks best. OTA TV will be compressed slightly to fit the bottom a broadcast channel. It will see the second best. Cable / satellite is compressed and the worst of the search. As far as the letterbox edition will be to see movies in theaters. There are a few formats for movies and not all of them have the same size and shape as a TV screen. If you get one of those movies, it will not fill the screen completely.

Justified: The Complete First Season $13.74 Prolific and much-respected author Elmore Leonard’s novels have fared poorly when they’ve been adapted to the small screen–remember Maximum Bob?
