What to Look for When You’re Buying Your New 3D TV
3D movies have made a substantial come back in recent years, gone are the days of drive in movies with those red and blue cardboard specs that made aliens and monsters loom over us. Now we can get the sharp picture we have come to expect from high definition movies and sports but in full colour and freakishly realistic images jumping out the screen at us. More and more movies are coming out at the cinema in 3D and to make the most of that experience when we get the movie on DVD or Blu-Ray we’ll need a TV capable of rendering these images correctly and so there is a growing army of 3D TVs now available and knowing which one to buy is a question on everyone’s lips.
The main factor that makes a TV a 3D capable TV is having a fast enough refresh rate, this relates to how quickly the picture is updated on the screen, this figure needs to be 120hz or faster. This makes sure the image can be shown properly and will work well when you want to get a 3D image that makes you think you are really there.
At the moment in order to be able to watch a 3D movie or broadcast properly you will need a set of specialist glasses, this is one factor to consider when buying any 3D TV, as some may only come with 2 or 4 sets of glasses, you will obviously want a pair for each member of the family and if you have more people then you may have to fork out extra money on them. Also it may be worth looking into how much these glasses cost as you could need to buy replacements if you break them such as sitting on them!
One of the biggest surprises when people come to buy 3D TVs is that you could get a 3D Plasma TV or a 3D LCD TV, the technology is not exclusive to either side but there are some things to bear in mind such as Plasma TVs don’t have as much trouble with motion blur but any static images could be ‘burnt-in’ to the screen so you’ll have to make sure that you don’t leave the TV on the same image for prolonged periods to keep the picture free of any ghosting or burnt in images which can become difficult to remove on some set.
3D Movies and sports are becoming more and more popular so if you are looking to buy a new 3D TV make sure to do your research and check them out yourself first to avoid any problems further down the line.
