Will cheap HDMI cables degrade XBOX 360 graphics quality?
Hello, I just bought a XBOX 360 Elite(2009 Holiday Bundle) that does not come with an HDMI cable. So, I bought a $20 HDMI cable to be play to play on my 42″ HD Ready(720p) LCD TV. Now, my question is whether the graphics quality will be different from the Microsoft HDMI cable(for the XBOX 360) or any other expensive cables or do I receive the same image quality. I know that the HDMI cable made by Microsoft come with an Audio cable, so dont talk about that.

first to answer your question. the difference between the cheap HDMI cables and the expensive ones is the coating or plating they put on the cable. since the cables are digital the coating does not actually protect from interference. The only thing the coating does is protect the cable from physical damage. so no, a cheaper HDMI cable will not degrade your picture or sound.
you said that your tv is “42″ HD Ready(720p) LCD TV”. you should know that the purpose of HDMI cables is for 1080p tvs. the component cables that come with Xbox can perform at 720p, and since this is the max on your tv there is really no need for an HDMI cable. though using the cable will not hurt or degrade anything it is just important to know that you don’t actually need the cable, so return it if you can (or want).
You also mentioned that “HDMI cable made by Microsoft come with an Audio cable” . i was unaware of this, but this is actually quite useless. an HDMI cable doesn’t need an (extra) Audio cable since it can actually broadcast sound. this is what sets HDMI apart from DVI cables which cannot broadcast sound.
