Big, Thorough Question about TV’s?
Ok. I have a plethora of questions and will break them down into parts. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.
1. I am looking to buy a 32″ LCD tv. My two choices are a Vizio or a Philips. Which is better??
2. Also, what is a contrast ratio? and is a certain ratio better than others? I saw a 2,500:1, a 800:1 and a 5000:1. What are the differences?
3. I would have HD digital cable, would buying an HDMI cable help or benefit in any way the picture of HD 720p? or would the component cables suffice?
4.I could get an 1080p JVC for 150 dollars more, Would that extra money really be that much more worth over a 720p, because I am trying to economize, but would consider if it was a colossal difference

Don’t get the Vizio or Philips…neither is reliable! Get the JVC, they’re considerably better!
2. Contrast ratio is the ratio between the blackest black and whitest white that a TV can produce. The higher the number the better the overall picture quality will be. However, these numbers are not perfectly accurate between different brands because there are no set laws that test them. So companies can put down whatever they want(to a reasonable amount)! When possible, go by a TV’s ‘Native’ contrast ratio. This number is what you’ll most likely see in a home environment. Dynamic is an inflated number to grab consumers attention!
3. For HD digital cable if you go with the 1080p JVC, yes get the HDMI cable. Just keep in mind that not very many channels come in resolutions higher then 1080i/720p. Very few are at 1080p! Chances are you won’t see a significant difference if you use a HDMI or Component cable. I recommended HDMI because you can get them cheaper then most Component cables. Don’t get one that’s more then $20…you don’t need expensive cables!
