Are HD TV’s synonymous with Digital?
There are warnings in the media about the need to have a digital TV or conversion box by 2009. I assumed that the new flat screen, high definition tv’s were ready to receive digital transmissions. However, I’ve been paying more attention and do not see “digital” listed in any of the labels or listed features for the new tv’s on the market. It seems logical that newly manufactured tv’s would meet the required standards due to be in effect by next year, but I would like to know this for sure.
All the new tvs are required to have a built in digital tuner. Look for something called ATSC Tuner, that’s usually what they call it. And HD is not necessarily synonymous with Digital. If a signal is HD then yes it is digital. But you can receive a digital signal and it not be HD content. So next year, they will convert those analog signals to digital, which will clean then up a little bit, but those old channels still wont be HD, if that makes sense.
