What brand and model of HDTV works well with standard-definition signals?
I am interested in a new high-definition television – this time, especially for the bigger screen … to be prepared for the not-so-distant future, if I want HD service. But I'm not ready for HD service Upgrade now. So I would like to work very well find an HDTV with my current standard definition signal (via DirecTV). I've read that some HDTVs with fantastic Accept HD signals … but not very good with SD signals. The last thing I want is a nice new TV that a worse picture than I am now with my tube TV offers.
All HDTVs must deinterlace and upscale the SD TV signal to match its native resolution. This process does not deteriorate the image slightly. In addition, when the SD input is itself good, not, the process tends to emphasize the weaknesses. Consumer Reports checks HDTVs in its December issue, and some is rated as excellent to SD-TV. Even after getting the HD service, will be much more of your TV in SD. So you do want a set that is capable in this area.
