Statistics – Population vs Experimental Units?
A questionnaire is being used to measure the reaction of two groups of psychology majors from a particular American university to a television clip: one group who knows it’s in standard definition and another group who thinks it’s in high definition.

I’m assuming that the clip is truly in standard definition.
I’ll call group A the group that *knows* the clip is in standard definition.
I’ll call group B the group that *thinks* the clip is in high definition.
In this case, the population of interest is group B. This is because you’re attempting to gauge their response to see whether they notice the change in quality over standard definition. This study was actually done recently.
There isn’t enough information to determine the experimental units. It depends on what the groups are being asked. Presumably, the experimental units would be whether group B does perceive a difference, even though they’re being tricked.
