Can someone please help me with HDTV options?

I have a 42 "1080p TV. My local cable provider (Comcast in Tallahassee) seems very limited HD programming offer, even if I pay obscene amounts of money for premium packages. I thought that satellites could pave the way to go, so I ordered DirecTV but said their installer that I do not have a clear line of sight to the satellite (trees). I'm willing to cut down trees, but who knows whether to improve the line of sight? I'm just so frustrated that such a nice TV, but only able to see decent quality programming to Blu-Ray. I will not pay the cable company an additional $ 10 per month, so I can get the four networks and PBS in HD, and I will not cut down trees for no good reason. Help please?

I checked Comcast in your zip code (see ref below) and you're right, is the limited HD offering surprising. So I would also elsewhere on TV. Before cutting the trees, You have other options in your area? AT & T U-verse would be an excellent choice for you if U-Verse has been extended to the neighborhood. Or FIOS (another Fiber-based system) from another provider, perhaps? Or how about over-the-air with a good antenna? The HD offerings are limited, but you should at least get all the Networks, and they are free. If none of these work for you to get very detailed information about the azimuth of the satellite you need to receive. HD via DirecTV requires a multiple-LNB dish that receives more than one satellite. You want to make sure that all the trees that might interfere are removed. Good luck.
