hd tv resolutions explained
Up-conversion DVD Players, please explain?

I currently have a 42″ LCD capable of 1080p but I have normal cable without any HD channels so the resolution is actually worse that small 480p TV’s. I want HD!!!!

Is it true that up-conversion dvd players match the dvd quality to the resolution of the TV? Does that mean that normal dvd’s will become 1080i since thats the capable resolution of my 42″ LCD.

I dont have an HDMI cable. Would I need one in order for the up-conversion dvd player to work?

How much will it cost for all this? (I need to convince my parents)
Whats the deal with the HDMI cables??
Why are some more expensive that others and what makes one better than the other?

An upconverting DVD player scales and sharpens the video so it looks ok on HD sets. It looks decent on 720p, but I haven’t seen it on 1080.

Don’t believe the nonsense about needing $100 HDMI cables. A $10 cable will do just as well.
