Will this motherboard take that video card?
Motherboard: GA-8IG1000-G
Video Card: Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express)
Other info: Processor 2.6 Ghz Celeron, 1.75 Gb RAM

I’ve heard a good card with crap processor will be bad and liable for ‘bottlenecking’. Is that true, and should I lose sleep over it? Any other hints to make my pc faster without having to change anything that I may end up breaking, do let me know!

If your motherboard is the one shown on the link that card definitely will not work with it!. Your motherboard only supports the AGP graphics slot & that card is PCI-e compatible only! Being a Celeron, your processor is a bit slow & is definitely not that good for gaming. However, you can put a pentium 4 in that motherboard & it’s actually quite an easy fix as you would simply take one processor & fan out & replace. The most powerful card you could probably hope for is the nVidia GeForce 7600GT with 512Mb of RAM. It was a big boost to my last computer & even allowed me to play games such as Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 on my AMD 3000+ Athlon 64 with 1gb of RAM.
So do not waste your money on that card, unless you plan on buying a more modern system (supporting PCI-e) with it! Buy the 7600GT and a Pentium 4 processor too & your system will whizz along a lot quicker than your current one.
PS, make sure the processor is designed for the correct Slot too!
