TV Antennas: Is Local Programming Worth The Hassle?
The way we view TV has drastically changed in the past year. HDTV antennas are all over nowadays now that the switch has been made from analog to digital broadcasting, so what a lot of people are wondering is… If you already possess satellite or cable… Is it worth the hassle? It is a few extra bucks and then you have to set it up and everything, so… What about it? Is it worthwhile? Yes it is.
It’s Free. Well you pay a little money initially for the HD antenna installation itself, but after that, it’s totally one hundred percent free to watch television with it (unless you wanna get technical and discuss how much in electricity you’re using to keep your HDTV on initially!). The TV is broadcast totally for free, twenty four hours a day (unless your local station still does the Indian Head thing at three in the morning). In the heart of a recession, who on the planet can afford to pass up free programming?
If you watch cable or satellite TV, that’s great. You get many hundreds of channels, you can check your favorite shows, block material you don’t need your kids seeing, and you can view the same darn television programming as everyone else in the country… What you can’t do is bump into one of your local newscasters at the food market. What you can’t do is have a laugh watching some weird cable access show. What you CAN’T do is watch the local news or the syndicated late night television before it’s posted online, 24 hours after the opening monologue is applicable.
You can get some local programming through cable and satellite providers, but… Usually, they want you to pay extra. You may be informing yourself “well what’s the main difference between that and the cost of an antenna?” Well… The best TV antenna typically costs less than what the providers want you to pay on a monthly basis, so… You can either pay every month for these channels, or pay once. It’s your call.
Many people presume that HDTV antennas don’t, as a matter of fact, collect a true HDTV picture… Reality is, you can really obtain better picture quality with airwave broadcast than you typically can from cable broadcast, so there’s that to consider. Really, the free broadcast HDTV is just as crisp and clean and clear and stunning as anything else being broadcast in HD. You don’t fail to notice anything.
O.k., it’s only really fun if you are just a bit of a tech geek, if you get nostalgic for watching television with the bunny ears. But seriously, if you are old enough to remember getting twelve channels and no remote control, this will bring you back… Except with the bonus of a remote control and clearer image than you had when you were a kid. Still, the nostalgia factor virtually makes it worth the small cost of purchase alone.
