Advice please on surround sound with a few devices?
Hello
I am currently looking for a surround sound solution for my bedroom setup. I have a 42″ wall mounted lg5000 – it has 3 hdmi ports all being used and has an optical out.
I have connected to the tv a ps3 mainly used for blurays, a sky+ HD box and an xbox 360 elite all hdmi.
I would like a 5.1 surround sound system that I can perhaps hook up to my tv maybe using the optical out that will let all 3 devices output through the surround sound.
My budget is up to £500. I have no idea what is good and what is not or whether or not my theory on connecting the surround sound will infact output true surround sound.
Thank you for any help
You could purchase a surround sound system in a box, that comes with 5 speakers and a subwoofer. the thing about doing it that way is that you need to find a unit that has hdmi in and out. that will be your problem. the absolute best way would be to buy a actual audio/video reciever which may cost alittle more because you need to buy a reciever and speakers seperate. the ps3, hd box and 360 can hook directly to the hdmi IN ports on the reciever and then you would need to hook the reciever to the tv using the hdmi out port on the reciever into the hdmi in on the tv. that would free up 2 hdmi ports on your tv. it makes things alot easier for us tech savvy people. you would be using your flat screen as a monitor instead of a tv because everything would be running through the reciever. i hope this helps..
Most if not all surround sound in a box systems do not have hdmi in ports… they only have 1 hdmi out which is used to connect to your tv.
