Just bought an LCD tv and the picture quality is terrible…?
I recently bought a new LCD tv to replace the old CRT tv I had in my bedroom. I don’t have and HD tuner and it isn’t hooked up to and HD programming. When I hooked it up and turned it on, I realized that the picture quality was horrific. I understand that the showroom displays are hooked up to HD programming and that is why they look so good, but this looked worse than my old CRT tv. I have a Plasma tv that is in the living room and when I hooked it up, the picture was great(not HD great, but great none the less). I have been told that LCD tvs have a warm up period and it takes them a couple of hours of running before they look they way they are supposed to. When I learned this I left the tv on for a few hours and the quality imporved slightly, but not as good as my plasma by any means. Do I need to leave it on for longer, or is this unusual for a LCD tv?
1. There’s no such thing as a warm-up period.
2. There should be no dofference between your LCD and plasma as far as the kind of poor quality you’re talking about.
There are two possibilities, besides a broken TV.
First, be sure the quality and power of your TV signal is as good as the one feeding your Plasma. If you can, hook it up to the feed for your Plasma.
The second is, your TV is not a good design. I’ve seen reviews of sets where the HD picture was great, but the set was not recommended because the SD picture was terrible.
If you decide to return it, go to the December issue of Consumer Reports which reviews many sets and includes their SD perrformance.
