Starting On A Music Career
By reading this article, I can only assume that you are looking to determine how you can make a real go at a career playing music. So, if you are a musician that really wants to make some money playing the music that you love, it is going to take some dedication and some focus on a few different areas.
You have to consider all of what will later be mentioned as important as any other. You see, they are all listed here because they are important to your success in music. If you don’t take it seriously, than you might not be nearly as successful as some of the musicians that you follow and enjoy.
One of these important factors is the type of music that you are going to play. You see, you should determine what style fits you the best. Once you determine your genre, you should work hard to define your sound and make it unique. You do not want to go too unique here as you might lose the bulk audience that you could have.
Just like a truck driver needs a decent truck to make his deliveries, a musician needs a good instrument to make good music. You see, you have to invest in this aspect of your craft, because if you go low end, your sound will too. If you are playing acoustics, you should check out an Alvarez or a Takamine acoustic guitar. Electrics are leaned more towards Fender and Ibanez. These are not the very best, but they are quality that will really improve your sound.
So you establish your genre, you get a nice dreadnought acoustic guitar, and now you start to figure out how to get your music out to the people that need to hear it. I would like to caution you to avoid contacting record labels on your own, as they rarely accept materials from artists themselves. You should send off some materials to a management group, and let them take care of it for you.
This really starts with making a quality press kit. A press kit is a grouping of information that a label might want to know about you or your band. These typically consist of photographs of live performances and still shots, a biography and some tracks that your group has recorded. If you are including video footage, it should be in DVD format. You might consider making it so that it can be viewed on a graphic LCD HDTV screen if you are really ambitious.
If you follow all of these steps, than you can hopefully get a good start towards making some money with your music. More importantly, you will hopefully be able to bring the songs that you have written to a level where millions can love and appreciate them.
