Should you turn the TV off when you dust it?
My roommate went to dust the TV with it still on, and my boyfriend and I told him to stop and turn it off. We don’t have an HDTV or anything, but does it actually make a difference on tube or HD TVs?
CRT (picture tube) TVs have a rather large charge on the opposite side of the glass front, so wiping the screen while the tube is operating could generate a static charge and zap the cleaning person. Although not dangerous, it does sting.
LCD and plasma displays don’t have this problem.
