Comparison Between LED And LCD TV Sets
Are you considering the idea of buying a new TV for this Christmas? Most probably you may wish to get a HD Television. However which HDTV? With so many models of high definition TVs in the marketplace one could easily get confused. You have many options like LCD, Plasma and the new LED TV. What is the difference and which type is appropriate for you? In this article we will examine the difference between LCD Vs LED televisions.
The LCD HDTV or Lquid Crystal Display television is a flat-panel TV that utilizes the Liquid Crystal Display technology. The LCD TV got two layers of glass which are polarized and stuck on each other. One of these layers holds the liquid crystals. These liquid crystals allow the light to pass, or block the light, to produce images on the TV screen when electricity passes through it.
In LCD television the light source is a group of CCFL lamps at the rear of the TV screen. With the help of the fluorescent lamps, the pictures produced by the liquid crystals become viewable to you. Example for LCD TV: Samsung LN40C630 LCD TV.
LED TV’s are actually a specific type of LCD TV. LED telesvisions also utilizes Liquid Crystal Display technology. The only difference is their light source, that is at the rear side of the screen. The LCD Television utilizes ccfl lamps, and the LED Television uses Light Emitting Diodes. A good example of LED TV is the Samsung LED TV series.
Types of LED Televisions:
There are 2 types of LED TVs depending upon the system of light source. One is called the Edge lighting, and the second one is named Full-Array lighting. In the Edge lighting, the group of light emitting diodes are arranged on the outside edges of the display screen. On the other hand, in Full-Array lighting, there are several rows of light emitting diodes behind the entire area of the display screen. They allow greater control over brightness and dimming, since the diodes can be switched on and off individually.
Advantages of LED TV over LCD TV
So is LED better than LCD TVs? In fact one should ask, is LED LCD TV better than LCD TV with CCFL light since the only differnece is the light source. There are few advantages of bringing home an LED TV.
Beginning the LED Televisions deliver somewhat improved picture quality since Light Emitting Diodes are able to make more balance in color saturation. LED Televisions also consume less power than the normal fluorescent lamps.

LED Televisions are the newest version of HDTVs, and that’s the reason they are currently more costly than the standard LCD TV’s.
