HD TV Broadcasts on non HD TV?
I have a non-HD TV without an antenna. We typically just watch stuff online or on DVDs. With the switch to HD and the Olympics this year, we were thinking about getting an antenna. I recently got my $40 coupons for the converter so that with an antenna we could get HD broadcasts. While at Wallmart, I saw a Philips MANT310 that says it receives HD signals. Will this work or do I still need a converter?
publikvu, will getting the converter give me the HD quality? Getting regular rabbit ears + converter is going to cost me at least $20. The antenna I mentioned above costs $20. I’m trying to figure out if there’s a benefit to getting the converter or if, since I don’t have an antenna yet anyway, I should just get the one mentioned above.
If you do not have an HDTV, nothing will give you an HD quality picture.
If your TV does not have an ATSC digital tuner, you can hook-up any antenna you want to, your TV will only receive analog over the air SD TV. That will end on 2/17/09. After that, if you don’t add the converter box and an antenna, you’ll receive nothing.
The converter box will convert digital TV received by the antenna into analog TV so that you can watch it on your old TV.
Again, it will be in standard definition, not HD.
The only way to get HDTV in HD quality is with an HDTV.
