Should I stick with my distributed CRT TV, up to HD signals on?
After looking in the shops on LCD and plasma screens, I think the Image quality in many ways is a step backwards.
You do not get rid of your CRT set ever. If there be a working TV and a good picture and sound, then why spend hundreds of pounds or more to replace it? You are right about the picture quality, many LCDs and plasmas have a poor quality 625line images (standard definition). This is because, unlike a CRT, the panel screens have a so-called "native resolution" whch is a fixed number by horizontal lines. This is optimized (these days) for high-definition display (720 and 1080 lines). Unless the set is a very good (ie, costs over £ 900 for one 32 "LCD or £ 1500 for a 47" plasma), then it will display in the electronics trade-offs to 625 line pictures. Sometimes these compromises are not very good – and it shows! You will not find anyone to just £ 600 or more is blown to admit that they have a lot of that had replaced a better picture though. I find it amazing absoluteley and almost incredible that the chucking people off the waiting TV sets and replace them with plasmas will cost anything from £ 600 – £ 3000th The amount of HD programming is still very small and the additional Sky subscription is to be paid. If anyone how difficult times are and how closely moaning her money – ask if they've recently purchased a new telly, and why they did it. If you do not have Sky or cable then you go and get yourself a Freeview box for £ 20 and plug it into your existing TV. This gives all digital channels you need. You can replace tv, when the tube begins to fade. In the meantime, save your money when the dreaded time You will be able to buy a really good HD TV into your savings instead of a crappy one now.
