Can I connect a subwoofer to my TV to boost the bass that I’m unable to get from the TV speakers alone?
I have a Mitsubishi 65″ DLP. Unfortunately, my Philips 2.1 surround system doesn’t have appropriate aux audio options for my HD DVD player, so I prefer to just use the HDMI transferred audio through my TV’s speakers.
Am I able to simply hook-up a subwoofer to my TV to improve the bass?
Yes, my 2.1 system does sound better, if you use the on board DVD player. When I do that it allows me to choose between Action, Drama, Sci-Fi and Concert EQ settings.
The digital audio into the 2.1 system from my HD DVD player is another story. It only allows musical settings, such as Rock, Classical or Jazz. In that way, the Virtual Surround on the Mitsubishi ends up sounding better in most ways, except on the lower end.
There is no Sub Out on the TV.
I’m thinking I need to step up to a better 2.1 system that is more expandible, and put this Philips 6500 on ebay.
Usually no. Unless the TV has a sub out, which is doubtful. Most subs need an amplifier to power it. There are subs that are powered, but you still need the appropriate output from the tv.
