I just bought a new Samsung Plasma, 50 inch TV, 720p. The picure is not so sharp – what to do?
I don’t have the HD box yet (getting that from Direct TV) – is that the problem or is it the 720p? It is a PN50c450
I have done some of the basic tweaking of the settings, but have not yet connected it to HD … but wondering if I should have bought a 1080p and/or LCD instead.
It looks like crap because you are feeding it standard def. This has not changed/improved since it became a standard in 1948.
You will be shocked at how good that display will look when you feed it true HD.
Try this: go to www.antennaweb.org and type in your address. It will show you a map of the TV towers and what HD channels you can get. If you are lucky enough to be able to use an indoor antenna, go spend $25 for the Phillips Silver Sensor Classic indoor antenna, hook it up and let the TV scan for channels. Otherwise wait and get the HD box.
You should have an HDMI cable in advance of receiving your HD box. I like the cables from www.bluejeanscables.com, but the MediaBridge cables from Amazon are said to be good and cheap cables can be bought from www.monoprice.com
And dont let people tell you 720 is not good enough. Many people (including myself) cannot see the difference between two TV’s where one is 720 and the other is 1080. In fact – I could probably fool you into saying the 720 image looks better by simply making it brighter.
I strongly recommend the HD DVR. It will change the way you watch TV.
