Can I STILL get the 3D effect from a 3D Blue-ray disc viewed with 3D glasses on a non 3D 1080p HDTV?
The short answer is no. They did release a few movies on bluray with the red/blue cardboard glasses (Coraline is the only one I can think of but there have been others), but this technology has been around since the 1950s and doesn’t work very well.
I am assuming that you are talking about the 3d that you see in theaters and on in-store demos… in that case the answer is no. As the previous poster stated, you must have a 3d movie, 3d TV, 3d glasses and a 3d bluray player and if you are missing any of those your picture will only be 2d. The glasses sold for in home 3d have shutters in them that sync with your 3d television and that is why they are so expensive – they are also not the same as the glasses used in the theater – those are polarized glasses and work on a different technology than the 3d TVs for your home.
Oh and if you are running home theater, you will also need a 3d receiver to pass the signal to your other 3d devices (although most 3d bluray players have 2 HDMI outputs, one for audio and one for video, so this will only really impact the ps3).
