is there a huge difference between a 19″ lcd tv and 19″ lcd monitor (for a pc)?
i want to buy a new monitor, minimum 19″ lcd, but would also like something that doubles as a TV so i can play games when i should be working.
There are a few monitors that have built in tuners, but they’re as expensive if not more than a tv (HD) that offers PC connectivity.
I do graphic/web design as well as photography and video editing, so picture quality is a must -i’m not wanting or expecting HD quality out of a DVI/VGA cable, i just want to know the quality wont be less than that of a regular 19″ lcd

Current tv technology is 1920×1080 (“full HD”), so although it will be fine up to HD, if you want to increase the resolution past that, it will not be capable of doing it.
Apart from that there is not much difference between a decent LCD TV and monitor
You can get an HDMI adapter for the DVI out and use that to connect to the HDTV – will provide better picture quality than VGA input
I run my HTPC on a Full-HD 32″ and am very happy with the picture quality.
IF you are considering watching TV through the TV, one advantage of using the computer is that you can add a tuner card and do recording and time-shifting with it (as essentially you are hooking a hard disk up to it by adding the computer) – whereas if you use the tuner in the tv, you would need external hardware (pvr) to do the recording to to pause/rewind.
Newer tv’s have 100-200hz refresh rates, which greatly improves frame rates for watching videos. At this stage they’re quite pricey though.
